Instructional League Referee Information
To referee the Instructional League division, also referred to as the "Candy" league or "U6", you must be 11 years old, have a basic understanding of the game, and be responsible. The instructional league is the only division you may ref if you have not attended the training for SAY referee certification. Attending the referee training is NOT required for instructional league referees, but it is required for all higher divisions.
It is critical that you bring a whistle to start and stop play and a watch to time the game. If you are purchasing a watch, consider one with a countdown timer which beeps when time expires. Formal referee attire is NOT required, but a black WCSC referee shirt can be purchased at the concession stand for a small fee (around $5). If you have not had a chance to purchase a shirt, wear black to distinguish yourself from the players.
Game schedules will be posted 1-2 weeks prior to the games. Request for the games just need to be e-mailed to Brian, the Instructional League scheduler, at WCSoccer.U6Ref@hotmail.com between Saturday and Tuesday at 6:00pm prior to the weekend's games. Remember to send your name, date, and time of the games for which you are available when requesting games. Also, inform me if you are a new ref, so you will be scheduled with someone more experienced who can help show you the ropes. Game assignments will be posted on the website by Wednesday night for the following weekend's games.
Last minute specials will be posted under "Last Minute Specials" section of the referee page for games not filled by Wednesday night and for any cancellations.
In the event that you need to cancel, please first try to find your own replacement. If you can not find a replacement, e-mail me at the earliest possible time, so I can post the last minute special and hopefully get the slot filled.
Check if you have been assigned any games you requested by viewing the schedule posted on the WCSC site before the weekend. You will NOT be e-mailed your game assignments. It is up to you to check the website at www.wcsoccer.org and verify if you have been assigned any of the games you requested. Make sure you check the U6 schedule and not the U8-U18 schedule.
Time each quarter: Candy League quarters are 8 minutes long.
Blow your whistle LOUDLY.
